Ever since watching the ‘Generation Game’ as a child I was desperate to try pottery. I had my first go at secondary school but the coil pot I made and the clay itself couldn’t have been further from my expectations.
However, it didn’t put me off, I persevered with pottery and learnt the nature of clay and how to respond to its different states.

In the final year of my degree I had to choose between ceramics and printmaking. I chose printmaking but the joy of working with clay never left me. During lockdown I was unable to continue my landscape drawing practice so found clay to be a very therapeutic alternative.

Now I love to build functional vessels and decorative objects and find my knowledge of printmaking has been key to developing ways to decorate the surface. I am not a big fan of glossy finishes so I use coloured slips and oxides to introduce colour and keep the surface matt. I tend to fire my work once to stoneware so the work is frost proof, more resilient and better for the environment than mutliple firings.
