Dungeness Caravan
etching
I specialised in printmaking as an undergraduate, it provided me with a rich source of processes to explore. I learnt techniques in etching, linocut, silk screen and collagraph. On my student year in France I found lithography classes in a tiny studio in Paris.
I love the scope these processes give to express spontaneity, mood, simplicity and complexity. Printmaking also invites experimentation, the time between the stages of process allow space for reflection. Printmaking requires self control and restraint but there’s also the excitement of accidental success and unexpected results. I love the traditions of the craft, the building of layers and all the tools and smells of the print room. There is nothing as satisfying as the deep, rich black of an aquatint.
Here are examples of the different techniques I use, more prints can be found in Projects and Shop.
